HEB 114 - Elementary Biblical Hebrew 2

3 credit hours - Three hours lecture weekly; one term.
This course meets the Arts & Humanities General Education Requirement. 

Develop vocabulary and grammar skills for reading and writing Biblical Hebrew. Gain experience in translating texts written in Biblical Hebrew.

Note: This course is not designed to teach spoken modern Hebrew. It focuses solely on reading, writing, and translating biblical (ancient) Hebrew.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Use Biblical Hebrew grammatical structures correctly.

2. Use vocabulary in the target language.

3. List the traditional names of God.

4. Identify geographical features in the ancient Middle East.

5. Read and write in biblical Hebrew.

6. Use dictionaries and concordances.

7. Discuss the history of translation of Biblical Hebrew texts in Judaism and Christianity.

8. Discuss aspects of ancient Middle Eastern Civilization.

9. Discuss ancient Hebrew conceptions of the divine.

10. Discuss relationships among family members contained in Proverbs and the Book of Ruth.
