FRE 225 - Intermediate French Civilization and Culture 13 credits - Three credit hours weekly; one term. Formerly FRE 225 - Intermediate French Conversation and Culture 1
Study the history, culture, literature, and fine arts of France from pre-Roman times to the Renaissance. Discuss the influence of artistic and political movements on early French society. Taught in French.
Prerequisite(s): FRE 212 or four years of high school French or permission of department chair.

Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the major periods in French history from pre-Roman Gaul to the Renaissance.
- Discuss the progression of French society from tribal organization through feudalism and absolute monarchy.
- Compare representative examples of French literature from the medieval period and the Renaissance.
- Evaluate the contributions of the visual and performing arts to early French civilization.
- Identify major architectural periods and their representative monuments in France.
- Present information, concepts, and ideas to inform, explain, persuade, and narrate a variety of topics related to French history.
