FRE 227 - Intermediate Francophone Civilization and Culture3 credit hours - Three hours lecture weekly; one term. Study the culture and civilization of the French-speaking (Francophone) world beyond France. Develop reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Taught in French.
Prerequisite(s): FRE 212 or four years of high school French or permission of department chair.
Note: Not for native speakers.
Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify the early Modern and Modern history of the Francophone world.
- Describe the geography of the Francophone world.
- Analyze Francophone societies and politics in the 20th and 21st centuries.
- Compare aspects of the fine arts in the Francophone world.
- Assess aspects of literature in the Francophone world.
- Discuss popular culture and the media in the Francophone world.
- Present information, concepts, and ideas to inform, explain, persuade, and narrate a variety of topics related to Francophone history.
