FRE 227 - Intermediate Francophone Civilization and Culture

3 credit hours - Three hours lecture weekly; one term.
Study the culture and civilization of the French-speaking (Francophone) world beyond France. Develop reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Taught in French.

Prerequisite(s): FRE 212  or four years of high school French or permission of department chair.

Note: Not for native speakers.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify the early Modern and Modern history of the Francophone world.
  2. Describe the geography of the Francophone world.
  3. Analyze Francophone societies and politics in the 20th and 21st centuries.
  4. Compare aspects of the fine arts in the Francophone world.
  5. Assess aspects of literature in the Francophone world.
  6. Discuss popular culture and the media in the Francophone world.
  7. Present information, concepts, and ideas to inform, explain, persuade, and narrate a variety of topics related to Francophone history.
