PSY 205H - Child Psychology - Honors3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. This is an honors course.
Learn about cognitive, physical, social and emotional development from infancy through pre-adolescence. Study theories of child development and research methods used to study it. Learn about conception and the prenatal period and its influence on later development.
Prerequisite(s): PSY 111 or PSY 111H or permission of department chair and eligibility for Honors courses.
Note: Also offered as PSY 205 ; credit is not given for both PSY 205H and PSY 205 .

Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Explain the research methods used by behavioral scientists to study human development.
- Identify the principal differences among current theories of human growth and development.
- Identify basic genetic concepts, and the mechanisms of gene-environment interactions.
- Identify processes and milestones related to conception, prenatal development, and delivery.
- Identify the major developmental milestones at each stage of life from infancy through the end of childhood.
- Explain the ways in which different domains of development - biological, sociocultural, emotional and cognitive - influence each other throughout infancy and childhood.
