BPA 200 - Foundations of Accounting3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. Learn principles of financial and managerial accounting from a user approach. Develop basic skills in understanding and interpreting financial statements. Apply financial and managerial accounting concepts to managing businesses.
Note: This course is for non-business majors and will not substitute for BPA 201 or BPA 202 . Credit will not be given for BPA 200 and also BPA 201 or BPA 202 .

Course Outcomes: Upon conclusion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Describe the basic elements for the framework of a financial accounting system.
2. Prepare a set of basic financial statements using the accrual method of accounting for a service and merchandising organization.
3. Compare and contrast different inventory costing methods.
4. Identify proper accounting procedures for receivables, long-term assets, liabilities and equity.
5. Analyze a set of financial statements using various analysis methods.
6. Describe the difference between financial and managerial accounting.
7. Identify various costs for managerial accounting purposes.
8. Solve managerial accounting problems related to cost volume profit analysis and budgeting.
9. Use a computerized accounting system to set up a basic accounting system.
