HTC 201 - Advanced Histotechnology4 credit hours - 45 lecture and 45 laboratory; one term. Explore the fixation of histology specimens. Prepare specimens for embedding using microtome techniques. Continue with learning the morphology, anatomy, and histology of all tissues in the body. Continue with advanced staining techniques used in the histology laboratory. Prepare advanced tissue specimens for microscopic examinations, including all advanced procedures. Identify tissue structures and their staining characteristics. Lab fee $270.
Prerequisite(s): HTC 101 with a grade of C or better.
Corequisite(s): HTC 204 .

Course Outcomes:
- Perform histological fixation techniques on all tissues of the human body.
- Determine the parameters necessary for the specimens used for fixation techniques, including size, volume, and time of fixation, temperature, and other such as pH.
- Perform embedding techniques including paraffin, gelatin, and adhesive techniques for microtome use.
- Utilize, maintain, troubleshoot, and perform quality control procedures on all instruments used in the histology laboratory.
- Prepare advanced tissue specimens for microscopic examination.
- Perform all advanced staining techniques used in the histology laboratory.
