ANT 123H - Introduction to Archaeology Honors3 credit hours - Three hours of lecture weekly; one term.
This is an honors course.
This course meets the Social & Behavioral Sciences General Education Requirement.
Research the archaeology of both Old and New Worlds, emphasizing North America and Europe. Analyze the spatial distribution, over time, of the genus Homo. Investigate material cultural and environmental evidence in order to understand regional differences in social institutions, especially economics.
Prerequisite(s): Eligibility for ENG 101 /ENG 101A and eligibility for Honors courses.

Course Outcomes:
- Define the science and discuss the historical and theoretical perspectives in the discipline of archaeology.
- Identify and analyze how the field of archaeology has evolved and modernized throughout the world.
- Explain and identify how particular regions are influenced by biosocial and biocultural conditions.
- Evaluate selected demographic variations between bands of foragers, tribes, chiefdoms and states as the continents became occupied.
- Compare and contrast the different economic impacts of human occupation and the shifting rural and urban economic landscapes.
- Apply the techniques learned in archaeology to related disciplines such as geography, sociology, history of arts, etc.
