ELL 316 - Advanced Grammar4 equivalent hours - One Term This continuing education course is designed for advanced level non-native speakers of English and provides instruction on developing greater proficiency in English grammar skills for academic purposes.
Topics include the present and past perfect verb tenses, with a focus on adjective and noun clauses, the passive verb tense, gerunds and infinitives, comparisons and connectors in academic speech and writing.
Prerequisite(s): ELL 313 or Accuplacer LOEP testing placement.

Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Express ideas using the present perfect and past perfect verb tenses.
2. Use discourse connectors to connect ideas in speech and writing.
3. Develop proficiency in using the passive verb tense, gerunds and infinitives in speech and writing.
4. Articulate comparisons with adverbs and adjectives more accurately.
5. Compose complex sentences using adjective and noun clauses.
