General Education Definition
General Education at Anne Arundel Community College is the foundational, interdisciplinary curriculum fostering knowledge, skills, and perspectives that enable critical thinking, global awareness, lifelong learning, and community engagement.
AACC General Education/State of Maryland: General Education Category Courses
These requirements are described in the Annotated Code of Maryland Title 13B standards .

Special Note about Honors Program Courses and Approved Course Lists
If students qualify for the Honors Program, they may take honors versions of any approved courses (such as ENG 101H , ENG 102H , etc.). Choose one of the areas below to see the approved general education and AACC degree required courses.

Additional AACC Requirements for all degree programs |
Diversity, Technology, and Wellness requirement may be achieved through one of the following:
- Completion of an approved course
- Completion of an approved general education course
- CLEP or departmental exam
- Transfer of an equivalent course from another higher education institution
- Completion of a sequence of courses within an area of study that fulfil outcomes as approved by EPC

Exemptions:
Programs may request exemptions from General Education requirements that are not state-mandated. EPC will review exemption requests and submit them to Academic Forum for subsequent approval.
Programs must have at least one of the following qualities to be eligible for an exemption:
- Program outcomes are set by an external agency;
- Program is accredited;
- Program has an articulation agreement to a program that is accredited;
- Credit limit exempted by MHEC.
