LGS 141 - Electronic Legal Research

1 credit hour - 15 hours; one term.
Learn and apply computer-assisted legal research strategies to locate primary and secondary sources of law; develop research strategies; identify appropriate databases, formulate and apply diverse search techniques, and evaluate results. Identify appropriate use of print, free online, or paid online legal information sources. Enrollment is limited. Lab fee $35.

Prerequisite(s): Grade of “C” or better in LGS 111 .

Prerequisite or Corequisite: LGS 143 .

Note: Typically offered at MC and OL; fall, spring, and summer terms.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate basic skills in solving legal research problems.
  2. Demonstrate low-level skills in use of computer-assisted research libraries and files.
  3. Demonstrate ability to coordinate hardcopy and computer-assisted legal research techniques.
