ART 216 - Independent Film3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. Study feature-length films made independently of mainstream Hollywood, focusing on issues of narrative convention and audience expectation, race, gender and sexual orientation. Study filmmakers who choose to remain free of Hollywood’s ideological constraints or are unable to secure funding for their films within the industry. Participate in class discussion based on the assigned films.
Prerequisite(s): ART 180 or AMS 181 or ART 181 or permission of program coordinator.
