ENG 202 - Creative Writing: Beginning Poetry Workshop3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. Build on the craft elements of writing poetry introduced in ENG 200 . Complete weekly exercises designed to teach important aspects of imagery, metaphor, rhythm, tone and form. Develop individual poetry portfolios. Practice the workshop method to discuss student writing, foster critical thinking and develop individual styles.
Prerequisite(s): ENG 200 or permission of department chair.

Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Analyze work written by established and contemporary poets and recognize themes and techniques.
- Write competent and original poetry.
- Use a range of literary terms and techniques to discuss their own poetry and the poetry of their peers.
- Critique the poetry of their peers in a workshop environment.
- Revise their poems by integrating critique from instructor and peers into their revision process.
- Articulate how they are using critique to raise their work to a higher standard.
- Prepare a submission for literary journals and publications.
