SOC 250 - Statistics in Social and Behavioral Sciences3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. Study basic statistics used in social and behavioral sciences. Covers standard topics in parametric statistics through a two-way analysis of variance. Also covers correlation, linear regression and nonparametric statistics. Meets the statistical requirement for most upper-level programs at four-year institutions in the area.
Prerequisite(s): MAT 135 or MAT 137 and either PSY 111 or SOC 111 .
Crosslisted: Also offered as PSY 250 ; credit is not given for both SOC 250 and PSY 250 .

Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- utilize the terminology and special notation of statistical methods.
- differentiate between descriptive and inferential statistics and understand their roles.
- demonstrate methods of data organization and presentation.
- employ computer-assisted instruction as a tool for learning and data analysis.
- recognize the role of statistics in developing conclusions and gaining knowledge from data.
- apply the appropriate statistic when making decisions regarding data and hypotheses testing.
- think more critically about statistics as presented in journals and the media as a whole.
