EET 192 - Fiber Optics Installer 23 credit hours - Three hours of lecture and directed lab weekly; one term. Learn about light theory and laser fundamentals including the content of the light spectrum generated by the various light sources. Learn about the equipment used to receive fiber optic signals and effect optical power has on performance. Develop skills through laboratory exercises to practice terminating, fusion splicing, inspecting, and testing of installed fiber optic systems.
Prerequisite(s): EET 191 .
Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Explain fundamentals of laser operation.
- Discuss the electromagnetic spectrum and the portion used for fiber optics
- Discuss the theory and operation of LED transmitters.
- Explain the theory of photodiodes.
- Discuss the theory of operation lasers.
- Discuss the theory of operation of multiplexers.
- Complete a fusion splice.
- Analyze a fiber using an Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR).
