SGT 201 - Surgical Technology Clinical5 credit hours - 240 hours of clinical laboratory per term. Perform procedures with the surgical team in an operating room environment using a preceptor-based model. Apply the theories and skills learned in previous surgical technology courses to the care of the surgical patient and begin to develop a portfolio of surgical procedures across the specialties. Lab fee $200.
Prerequisite(s): SGT 100 and SGT 102 with grades of C or better.
Corequisite(s): SGT 108 .

Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Perform perioperative case management duties in an organized and timely manner.
- Demonstrate the ability to apply the principles of asepsis to impeccable practice of sterile technique.
- Demonstrate the ability to apply safety procedures to the safe care of the surgical patient and to the management of the operative field.
- Apply critical thinking and appropriate actions to the intraoperative case management process.
- Perform appropriately as a novice surgical technologist in the first or second scrub role.
- Apply feedback from preceptors, clinical instructors, and self-reflections to improve practice.
- Exhibit positive professional behaviors expected by the surgical technology program and future employers.
