DHY 106 - Dental Anatomy and Tooth Morphology

2 credit hours - One hour lecture weekly and two hours lab weekly; one term.
Examine the anatomy of human dentition and the surrounding structures of the head and neck. Describe the anatomy and physiology of various tissue structures, such as muscles, nerves, bones, and blood vessels of the head and neck, and their biological relationship to the oral cavity and the entire body. Explore the oral cavity and the surrounding structures and discuss tooth morphology and the applications of tooth anatomy in dentistry. Lab fee $2,500.

Prerequisite(s): Acceptance into the Dental Hygiene Program.

Corequisite(s): DHY 100 , DHY 102 , DHY 104 , DHY 108 .

Course Outcomes:

Identify major landmarks related to the anatomy of the head and neck in relationship to the oral cavity.
Describe the development of the dentition, oral cavity, head, and neck.
Define the functions of various tissues and body systems surrounding the oral cavity, head, and neck.
Illustrate the difference in tooth anatomy among primary and secondary dentition.
Explain the application of tooth anatomy in dentistry.
Discuss the anatomical structure of the oral cavity.
