ELL 320 - Capstone Reading and Writing4 equivalent hours - One Term This continuing education course is designed for capstone level non-native speakers of English and provides instruction on achieving proficient reading and writing skills for academic college-level work.
Topics include using reading strategies to strengthen comprehension and critical analysis skills, combined with a focus on developing research and writing skills for academic purposes.
Prerequisite(s): ELL 317 or Accuplacer LOEP testing placement.

Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate the ability to read critically by applying strategies to improve comprehension of both fiction and nonfiction academic texts.
2. Use academic vocabulary, grammar, and syntax appropriately.
3. Practice academic writing in preparation for college courses.
4. Research and produce a career portfolio.
5. Evaluate research material from various academic sources to support writing assignments.
6. Develop and record personal reading and writing processes. Evaluate primary sources.
7. Develop the whole essay, body of the essay, and sentence complexity.
8. Pass the exit exam (35% of final grade).
