SGT 108 - Surgical Procedures 1

Learn introductory surgical procedures, including related pathophysiology and patient care concepts.

Prerequisite(s): SGT 100  and SGT 102  with a C or better.

Corequisite(s): SGT 201

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Integrate knowledge of anatomy and physiology with the process of understanding pathophysiology and surgical interventions.  
  2. Identify surgically treatable diseases and conditions of each body system, relevant diagnostic tests, and appropriate surgical treatments.
  3. Analyze the operative sequence using appropriate medical terminology, including identifying necessary supplies, instrumentation, and equipment.
  4. Describe perioperative care, considerations, and potential complications for the surgical patient.
