SGT 201 - Surgical Technology Clinical6 credit hours - 360 hours of clinical laboratory per term. Perform procedures with the surgical team in an operating room environment using a preceptor-based model. Apply the theories and skills learned in previous surgical technology courses to the care of the surgical patient and begin to develop a portfolio of surgical procedures across the specialties. Lab fee $200. Clinical fee $300.
Prerequisite(s): SGT 100 and SGT 102 with a grade of C or better.
Corequisite(s): SGT 108 .

Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Perform perioperative case management duties in an organized and timely manner with preceptor support.
- Demonstrate application of the principles of asepsis to impeccable practice of sterile technique, including the ability to intercept or resolve sterility issues as a novice.
- Demonstrate the ability to apply safety procedures to the care of the surgical patient and to the management of the operative field.
- Apply critical thinking and appropriate actions to the intraoperative case management process with preceptor support.
- Demonstrate commitment to surgical conscience.
- Prepare and submit concise, accurate, and timely documentation reflecting skill development and required surgical procedure completion.
- Perform appropriately as a novice surgical technology student in the first or second scrub role.
- Exhibit positive professional behaviors expected by the surgical technology program and future employers.
