EMT 201 - EMT-Intermediate to Paramedic Bridge 1

3 credit hours -
This course introduces the Intermediate practitioner to the duties and responsibilities of the paramedic. Emphasizes critical thinking skills in patient assessment and the use of medications in the treatment of those who are acutely ill or injured. Prepares for the role of team leader and patient advocate.

Prerequisite(s): EMT-Intermediate certification and BIO 230  or BIO 232  or BIO 234 .

Corequisite(s): EMT 200  and EMT 202 .

Course Outcomes:
 

  • Describe and defend the roles, responsibilities, ethical, medical, and legal issues
    that impact the paramedic
  • Perform an advanced physical assessment on a patient with an emergent illness
    or injury
  • Discuss the common medications used by patients with chronic medical
    conditions
