NUR 230 - Nursing Management of Clients with Complex Health Problems and Transition into Nursing

9 credit hours - 60 hours of lecture and 225 hours of directed laboratory per term.
Learn to integrate nursing concepts, principles, and skills to provide care that optimizes the health and wellness of three adult clients with alterations in functioning of biopsychosocial systems in medical-surgical settings that may have unpredictable outcomes. Lab fee $450. Clinical fee $450.

Prerequisite(s): NUR 220  and NUR 221  with a grade of C or better.

Corequisite(s): NUR 231 .

  1. Care Provider:  The nursing student will integrate the utilization of the 5 steps of the nursing process to determine and provide nursing care that is holistic, systematic, evidenced-based, safe and grounded in understanding of the sciences, humanities, cultural diversity and nursing theory to adult clients.

    Investigator:  The nursing student will integrate the analysis of data, question assumptions and approach all adult clients with a curiosity resulting in safe clinical decisions that improve the quality of care.

  1. Recognizes, questions and investigates deviations from optimum health status and uses these to guide safe clinical decisions for the complex adult medical-surgical client.
  2. Analyzes variations along the developmental continuum in the individual adult medical-surgical client.
  3. Utilizes various health care technologies to promote research, analysis, interpretation, and integration of data that aids in developing individualized nursing care plans for the adult medical-surgical client in a variety of settings.

    3. Professional:  The nursing student will implement the professional role in ways that reflect integrity, responsibility, ethical practices and an evolving identity as a nurse.
