PTA 105 - Clinical Practice 1

2 credit hours - 30 hours of lab , 15 hours of lecture and assessment of PTA skills; one term.
Preparation and performance of a concentrated introductory clinical experience using a variety of learning methods and environments (simulation, hands on, and observation) for supervised application of clinical skills. PTA skills are assessed by clinical and academic faculty. Clinical fee $25.

Prerequisite(s): PTA 102 , PTA 106  and BIO 232  or BIO 234 .

Corequisite(s): PTA 104 .

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

1. Adhere to ethical and legal standards in the practice of limited physical therapy under the direction and supervision of the physical therapist.  

2. Demonstrate ongoing competence in the delivery of selected interventions in a safe and effective manner, in real or simulated patient interactions, consistent with the standards of practice of the profession.

3. Perform basic data collection and implement selected interventions, using previous learned skills within the program, in real or simulated interactions. 

4. Demonstrate proficiency with documentation according to standards of practice and level of learning.

5. Demonstrate effective communication with a diverse patient population during simulated interactions, including patient education and treatment.

6. Identify psychosocial needs of patients and/or families.

7. Demonstrate self-awareness of strengths and areas for continuous improvement in simulated patient interactions.
