PTA 202 - Physical Therapist Assistant 4

4 credit hours - 45 hours of lecture and 30 hours of college laboratory; one term.
Theory and pathology of conditions which may require long-term rehabilitation techniques. Skill development focuses on techniques which enhance the level of function. Lab fee $100.

Prerequisite(s): PTA 104 , PTA 105  and PSY 211 .

Corequisite(s): PTA 201  and PTA 203 .

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Analyze the anatomy, etiology, and pathology involved in common pathologies which may require extensive rehabilitation:
  • Demonstrate competence with data collection methods for conditions that may require extensive rehabilitation within the PT plan of care
  • Demonstrate safety and competence with interventions for conditions that may require extensive rehabilitation within the PT plan of care
  • Model effective communication with patients, caregivers, and members of the health care team about extensive rehabilitation conditions and related patient care
  • Demonstrate competence with documenting essential elements related to rehabilitation
  • Identify the significance of diagnostic and standardized tests performed by the physical therapist and when appropriate, the physical therapist assistant.
  • Identify the role of the physical therapist assistant in discharge planning and formulate discharge recommendations for the supervising physical therapist
  • Demonstrate proficiency with computer skills during written and oral presentations
  • Demonstrate proficiency with using evidence-based research during written and oral presentations
  • Integrate diversity and cultural awareness when treating complex patients
