About the Computer Information Systems Department

Purpose: Prepares students for careers requiring a strong background in computer technology and information systems. Covers fundamental concepts in database administration, computer technology, networking and information systems. The students may be eligible to sit for the following certifications: MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist) Word, MOS Excel, MOS Access, and MOS Outlook.

General Education Requirements: 24 credits

Program Outcomes


Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Use proper computer system terminology.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to address user questions in a  help desk setting
  3. Use office productivity software
  4. Explain computer networks, including protocols, topologies, hardware, and network operating systems
  5. Install and use platform-appropriate operating systems, DOS and UNIX/LINUX command structures, and graphical user interfaces.
  6. Perform assembly, maintenance, and repair tasks involving microcomputer systems.
  7. Use database management application software in computer information systems.
  8. Apply troubleshooting principles to resolve user issues
  9. Recommend and implement appropriate technical solutions in the workplace.
